Psalm 91 is one of the most amazing psalms…. I feel like just quoting it fully ….

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

“I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him will I trust.’

….”He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.

“You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day,

“Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

“A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you.”

…”For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.

“In their hands, they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.”

This last verse is of course the one that the devil used when he was tempting Jesus in the desert: ‘Jump off that cliff, won’t the angels bear you up?’ He demanded. Jesus replied that we must not test the Lord…

But I rely on these verses when I am in the depths of fear. I believe them. I just don’t know the mystery of how they work in our lives. It is interesting that the devil wanted to test them too… to understand them…. but that is not for us to know, only to believe that He is with us always.

Dear God, Your promises in the psalms are so mysterious, they promise so much and it is often hard to see how they work in our lives. I know we can never see You or know Your ways, on this earth anyway, but please let Your face shine upon us, our benighted world, so that we can know Your love, know Your kindness and follow Your path. Please help us to look for You and seek Your kingdom before all others. My Father please continue to watch over my children, and indeed all the world’s children. Help us to make this a better place for them. Please give Your comfort to P and N, and to my dad. Please shine in our hearts. In Jesus’ name, Amen
