Again the psalm today is about trusting only in God: “My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock, and my salvation; He is my defence; I shall not be moved…”

“If riches increase…. do not set your heart on them…”

Meanwhile, 2 Chronicles starts with Solomon now in charge of all the wealth and power that David has accumulated in Israel, for God’s House.

The first thing Solomon does is worship God, and in return God gives him a choice of blessing. Solomon chooses wisdom, and God is so pleased He also gives Solomon glory and riches beyond that of any king before him.

Then the Chronicles of all the jewels, and precious woods and stones, begins. Solomon’s era is one of such wealth that “gold and silver are as stones in the streets….”

Dear God, We live in an era of such wealth and knowledge and pressure that it is often hard to remember to think of You first, to worship and wait for You. Please help me remember You all the time, and wait on You forever. Please help me teach my family to do so as well, for that is the most important job You have given me. In the name of my saviour, my Lord, Jesus Christ Your Son, Amen
