After a particularly inspiring sermon at church on Sunday, where the verse “This is the work of God, believe in the One He has sent…” I feel a need to return to the New Testament for a while.
All the reading of the Old Testament has turned me very law-bound, I am constantly fidgeting with diet, minor interpersonal exchanges, trying to apply the law to them. This has made me neurotic, and my fingernails are heavily bitten.
So while I am finding the Old Testament magestic and glorious – even the lists and the geneologies and the like – I am now going to read half of the day’s old testament reading, and half of the new.
I’m sorry to become eccentric about it, I can’t read two whole bits, it would not be good. It would stop me tending my family, which is my number one calling from God.
So, that said, here are my favorite bits from yesterday’s reading and today’s half readings:
Matthew 27-28: I resumed my reading of the New Testament with the story that is the source of all my hope – Jesus’ crucifixion, resurrection and returning to heaven. Believe in this, accept this massive gift, and you become at peace with God, and have the promise of eternal life. No matter where you are in life. For those of you who don’t know it, this is where it is, or Matthew’s account anyway. My favorite bit is Jesus’ last words in the chapter: “All authority has been given to Me in Heaven and on earth.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Teaching them to observe all the things I have taught you.
“And LO, I AM WITH YOU always, even to the end of the age.”
It’s hard to go on with today’s blog, I feel so tingly when I transcribe that. Maybe I will do the other half later in a separate blog.
Dear God, Thank You for the burst of faith You gave me in response to my prayer. There are many insights and thoughts about You buzzing around in my head. Please help me put them together to Your glory. My dear Father please watch over my earthly fathers and also P&N. Thank you for all the blessings you give us – our health and the food we eat. Please help me to teach my children about You. Please keep our family from evil, harsh testing and temptation, In Jesus’ name, Amen
