Jeremiah continues with God becoming evermore furious with Israel. They are worshipping other gods and doing evil to each other – then thinking they can make it right by offering sacrifices. It comes through clearly here that what God wants more than anything are the two Commandments given by Jesus : love God with your whole heart, your whole mind and your neighbour as yourself.
Still, I also read another classic psalm – one which I have up on my wall for my boys to learn.
Psalm 133: How wonderful it is, how pleasant, for God’s people (Some translations say brothers, so I use that one for my boys) to live together in harmony!
It is like the precious anointing oil running down from Aaron’s head and beard, down to the collar of his robes. It is like the dew on Mount Hermon, falling on the hills of Zion. That is where the Lord has promised His blessing – life that never ends.
Dear Father God, Thank You for Your amazing generosity to me and my family. Thank You that we live in peace and can visit parts of the world and have each other. Thank You that the boys got to play so well together this morning. It was a joy to me, just like it is a joy to You when Your children are good to each other. Please help me – us – to love You more. Please help us to love our neighbours better too. In Jesus’ name, Amen
