And so as the disobedience is dealt with and the covenant re-signed, the people get to work to create a mobile worship tent and earthly home for the Lord. This place is to be so holy that only priests may enter without being destroyed, and first they must go through special purification.
The specifications for the tent and Ark are exacting. Interestingly, according to a book I am reading on the Ark, the Ark itself looks a good deal like the Egyptian Pharoanic arks.
Compared to the Pharoanic arks, though, this one was striking but modest, its chief ornament besides the gold and jewels being two cherubim whose wings stretch up to make sides of the chair. This is to be God’s seat, the Mercy Seat.
With a project to focus their minds and hearts, the Israelites excel themselves, and Moses has to tell them to stop giving Gold, silver and fine cloth as there is too much.
Dear God, please use my crafts to build a piece of your kingdom here on earth, and to make my home your home. In Jesus name, Amen.
