Paul and Silas meet Timothy and continue through Greece preaching the Lord.

Interestingly, the Spirit forbids them to enter Asia.

They preach and make many believers, many women among them. Yet they also annoy the powers that be: when they heal a slavegirl who has visions which make money for her masters, they are imprisoned.

Again, an earthquake takes off their bonds, but instead of fleeing they stay and console the prison master, who is about to kill himself for the tragedy of losing his prisoners.

He and his family all get baptised that night.

Paul continues on to Athens, where he meets some of the philosophers who lived and breathed matters of the spirit. He makes a fabulous speech:

“Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious. For as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: To the Unknown God. Therefore the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you.

He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundariies of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us.

“For in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’ ”

Psalm 90 is asking God, who sees 1000 years as just one day, to give His servants some happiness and peace in their limited lifespan. “Let Your work appear to Your servants, and Your glory to their children.”

Amen to that!

Dear God, Thank You that You are so near to us, always, and that all we have to do is turn to You and repent in Jesus’ name. Thank You that You, the creator of our world, are our Father. Thank You for loving us. Please be with the homeless, and please help us to help them build homes. Please be with P as he continues to heal, and please be with my dad. Thank You for a lovely weekend together and a good party for A. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
