The lost sheep is found, like the sinner who repents, and “I tell you,” says Jesus, “there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine respectable people who do not need to repent.”<\/p>\n
And the parable of the lost son who runs off with his father’s inheritance, spends it on partying and prostitutes, then falls into destitution.<\/p>\n
When he decides to come home and beg for a job as one of his father’s servants, the father sees him a long way off: “he ran, threw his arms around his son, and kissed him.”<\/p>\n
“His son said, ‘I have sinned against God and against you. I am no longer fit to be called your son.”<\/p>\n
But the father kills his best calf, and organises a celebration, leading to jealousy from his elder, loyal son:<\/p>\n
“He was so angry he would not go into the house; so his father came out and begged him to come in. Bu the answered his father, ‘Look all these years I have worked for you like a slave. What have you given me? Not even a goat for me to have a feast with my friends! But this son of yours wasted all your property on prostitutes, and when he comes back home, you kill the prize calf for him!”<\/p>\n
The father replies that everything he has belongs to his elder son: “But we had to celebrate and be happy, because your brother was dead, but now he is alive.”<\/p>\n
Dear Father God, Please help me be a good child to You, faithful and by Your side. I know I am often not, and that I have wasted large parts of my life in my own service. Please forgive me for that, and help me be faithful and fruitful for You. Please show me the work You want from me, and give me Your Holy Spirit to do it.
