Elijah is still feeling dejected: “I have been very zealous for the Lord God of hosts; … the children of Israel have forsaken your covenant, torn down your altars and killed your prophets. I alone am left….”<\/p>\n
God directed to stand on the mountain:<\/p>\n
“And behold, the Lord pased by and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind…<\/p>\n
“And after the wind, an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake.<\/p>\n
“And afterthe earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire and after the fire a still small voice.”<\/p>\n
“What are you doing here Elijah?”<\/p>\n
Elijah repeats his grievances. The Lord sends him back work – to anoint a new king.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Ahab and Jezebel are killing a poor man Naboth so that they can have his vineyard.<\/p>\n
Elijah goes down after anointing the new king – Jehu – and tells Ahab and Jezebel that for their sins their blood will drip on the ground and be licked up by wild dogs.<\/p>\n
Ahab convinces the king of Judah – Jehosophat – to go to war against Syria. The two kings call prophets in to ask their opinion of this, and Jehosophat insists on a prophet of the Lord God.<\/p>\n
Ahab calls the Lord’s prophet Micaiah, who sits down with the prophets of Baal and agrees that the two kings should make war on Syria.<\/p>\n
But one of the kings (it does not say which) does not believe Micaiah’s blessing. There follows an interesting glimpse into the spirit world from Micaiah:<\/p>\n
“Then Micaiah said: I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no shepher. And the Lord said, ‘These have no master. Let each return to his house in peace.’<\/p>\n
“And Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, ‘Did I not tell you he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?’<\/p>\n
“Then Micaiah said “Therefore hear the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on His throne and all the host of heaven standing by. on his right hand and on his left.<\/p>\n
“And the Lord said ‘Who will persuade Ahab to go up, that he may fall at Ramoth Gilead?’<\/p>\n
“Then a spirit came forward and stood before the Lord and said ‘I will persuade him.’<\/p>\n
“The Lord said to him ‘In what way’ So the spirit said, ‘I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ And Lord said, ‘You shall persuade him and also prevail. Go out and do so.'”<\/p>\n
