Genesis 42 – 43.

This is the next part of the story of Joseph. In this episode, the drought has started and his brothers have been told by their desperate father to go to Egypt to buy food.

Of course, when Joseph sees them he is overcome with joy – but hides his identity from them and so begins what must have been a confusing time for the ten brothers, at the hands of an emotionally manipulative powerful ruler who calls them spies and takes one hostage until they bring back their last brother Benjamin.

Anyway, it reminds me of some of my own feelings in the global economic crisis. The toe-cutters have started working in my husband’s company, and so I feel blown around by forces beyond my control. Just as Joseph seems to have been trying to restore his family, while also getting some “restorative justice”, is God working behind the scenes of this crisis we created, to bring around restoration for his children?

Dear God, Please take my fear and replace it with trust in you. In the name of Jesus Christ, the one who restored us in your sight, Amen
