A lovely line from the Boney M song Rivers of Babylon in Psalm 19: May the words of my heart, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in your sight, Oh Lord, my strength and redeemer….

And may they indeed be so, my beloved Father.

Tonight Saul goes right over the edge, slaughtering a whole tribe of priests (and their families) who helped David. They had not known that the King had it in for David.

Saul then proceeds to chase David all over Israel, even though David takes time out from his running to save a town from the Philistines.

Saul almost catches David at one point, but is called away to his real job – fighting the Philistines. Then he comes back to try to finish the job. He falls asleep in a cave that David has taken shelter in, and David is urged by his men to kill the king.

But David refuses, merely cutting a corner from Saul’s robe. When Saul leaves, he calls to him, waving the piece of material. Saul realises God is against him, and asks for David’s promise that he will not destroy his house when he is king. David agrees.

Dear God, I love you. Please help me love you more. I know I can never on this earth love you as much as I should, but please help me love you enough to do your will here, and to be acceptable in your sight. In Jesus’ name, Amen
