What grace and serendipity that I held over Matthew 13 for today. Deuteronomy 28 and 29 are, respectively, a chapter on the blessings of keeping the covenant laws, and a chapter on the curses.

There are some curses in the Deuteronomy 29 which have made my hair curl and my womb cramp within me.

The magnitude of the calling of a believer, and a disciple, hit me like the south west express rushing through the station at 250kilometres an hour.

In Matthew 13, although Jesus has said that he has not come to undermine a single part of the law, he also says that teachers of the law who wish to be his disciples will have to be like the owner of a house who takes new and old things out of his store-room.

Dear God, I want to serve you, and you alone, joyfully and righteously. Please help me turn my whole heart towards you to do that. Please help our church leaders teach, and me to sort through, what are the old things and new things your people are to take from the living store-room of your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen
