These chapters deal with the early days of sacrifice in the new holy tent, with God present in his Ark of Covenant. And what scary early days they were. You can see here why the Jews in the times of Jesus were so attached to the rules.
Two of Aaron’s sons, the newly created priests, make what seem like simple errors and are burnt to death.
Aaron says nothing, which says a lot, but squabbling begins between him and Moses about how to obey the complex rules of worship and sacrifice.
The Israelites are also given a set of rules of what kind of animals are not to be eaten – famously no pigs or shellfish, but also I see no rabbits. Without rabbits to eat, my family would not have survived the first years in Poverty Corner, South Australia.
Dear God, Thank you for all the blessings you have given me today. Please help me share it willingly with those who need it, In Jesus’ name, Amen.
